To znany wielu osobom mechanizm. W Polsce przez jakiś czas uczymy się norweskiego w jednej ze szkół i idzie dobrze. Ale po przyjeździe do Norwegii następuje zderzenie z rzeczywistością i szok językowy. Wydawało nam się, że już całkiem sporo pojmujemy i potrafimy, a nagle nie możemy zrozumieć podstawowych słów. Dlaczego tak się dzieje?
W Norwegii istnieją nie tylko dwa standardy pisane języka norweskiego, ale też mnóstwo dialektów. Nie wszystkie zostały jeszcze skatalogowane, ale można uznać, że jest ich ponad 400. A na pewno jest ich przynajmniej 426, czyli tyle ile komun – gmin w Norwegii. Wracając do podstaw. Norweski to język pochodzący z rodziny języków indoeuropejskich, a ściślej mówiąc, z grupy skandynawskiej języków germańskich. Do tej samej grupy zaliczają się takie języki jak duński, szwedzki, islandzki czy farerski.
RYS HISTORYCZNY
Dlaczego mamy dzisiaj dwie standardowe formy pisane języka norweskiego? Norwegia przez 434 lata była w unii personalnej z Danią. W praktyce jednak wyglądało to tak, że Norwegowie byli pod władaniem Duńczyków. Stolica znajdowała się w Kopenhadze, a władzę sprawował duński król. Tym samym norweski naturalnie został wyparty przez język duński. Z czasem w niektórych miejscach zabraniano nawet wypowiedzi w ojczystym języku Norwegów. Często tępiono także przejawy kultury norweskiej. Kiedy po wojnach napoleońskich Norwegia częściowo odzyskała niepodległość (częściowo, bo aż do 1905 roku pozostała w unii ze Szwecją) i wyswobodziła się spod władania Danii, powoli zrodziła się dyskusja jak rozstrzygnąć kwestie językowe. Młodsze pokolenie nie pamiętało już dawnego języka norweskiego. W większych miastach panował głównie język riksmål (tzw. język królestwa), który był swoistą mieszanką duńsko – norweską. Na obrzeżach miast oraz na wsiach tworzyły się przeróżne dialekty.
KNUT KNUDSEN I JEGO PROPOZYCJA
Po pewnym czasie powstały dwa obozy zwolenników rozwoju językowego. Część osób uważała, że trzeba pozostać przy języku duńskim, a jedynie wprowadzić drobne zmiany w gramatyce i wymowie, tak żeby bardziej przypominał on stary język norweski, a jednocześnie był unowocześniony. Na czele tej grupy stanął Knud Knudsen, który dość szybko zaproponował szereg zmian, między innymi chciał wprowadzić żeńską formę rzeczownika, która nie istniała w języku duńskim. Oprócz Knudsena, kluczową rolę w zmianach ortograficznych i gramatycznych odegrali także Henrik Ibsen, Peter Christen Asbjørnsen czy Jorgen Møe. Jednak to Knudsen został okrzyknięty ojcem bokmålu, czyli właśnie formy norweskiego, która powstała po wyżej wymienionych zmianach.
IVAR AASEN I POWRÓT DO KORZENI
Nie wszyscy jednak byli usatysfakcjonowani z takiego rozwiązania. Wiele osób pragnęło wrócić jeszcze bardziej do korzeni i stworzyć formę, która bazuje na dawnych dialektach norweskiego. Jednym z inicjatorów takiego nurtu był Ivar Aasen, który przez kilka lat jeździł do różnych miejsc w Norwegii, tych dalszych i bliższych. Spisywał jak mówią ludzie, głównie słówka w różnych dialektach oraz formy gramatyczne. Kilka lat później wydał “Gramatykę norweskich dialektów”, a na bazie jego badań powstał nynorsk.
O JĘZYKU NORWESKIM DZISIAJ
W obecnych czasach każda gmina wybiera jedną, główną formę języka, której dzieci uczą się w najmłodszych klasach podstawówki. W ponad 80 % jest to bokmål. Choć prawie 160 gmin deklaruje się jako tzw. językowo neutralne, to w praktyce używają one także bokmålu. Nynorsk wybierany jest często w takich województwach jak Rogaland czy Hordaland, a więc w południowo – zachodniej części Norwegii.

W ostatniej klasie podstawówki (tzw. grunnskole) każde dziecko ma obowiązek uczyć się obu standardowych wersji języka norweskiego. Pomimo, że gmina wybiera jeden język, to jeśli w klasie znajdzie się conajmniej 10 uczniów, którzy chcieliby (lub ich rodzice wyrażają taką chęć) uczyć się drugiej wersji, to szkoła ma obowiązek zapewnić osobną grupę językową dla takich uczniów. Jednakże zarówno bokmål jak i nynorsk to tylko języki pisane, ponieważ tak naprawdę każdy uczeń jest zachęcany do tego, żeby wypowiadać się w swoim własnym dialekcie, jako że jest to nieodłączna część norweskiej tożsamości i kultury
